Shizen [ˈshi·zɛn] (自然) is a Japanese concept relating to nature. In contrast however to Western connotations of 'nature', Shizen is largely concerned with the mental rather than the physical, in the Japanese manner of articulation. For example, the core philosophy of Shizen in contruction or design reflects our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual connection to nature. Shizen espouses adaptability to our dynamic environment, all the while remaining respectful of the natural flow of the world.
